Department Takes Enforcement Action Against Major Industrial Polluter

Industrial facility under environmental oversight

The Department announced a $45 million settlement with Consolidated Chemical Industries (CCI) for violations of the Clean Water Act and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act at its manufacturing facility in Riverside County, Ohio.

Violations

  • Unauthorized discharge of industrial wastewater containing heavy metals
  • Improper storage and disposal of hazardous waste
  • Failure to report chemical releases as required by law
  • Operating without required environmental permits

Settlement Terms

Under the consent decree, CCI must pay a $45 million civil penalty, implement comprehensive pollution prevention measures, fund $20 million in environmental restoration projects, and conduct long-term groundwater monitoring.
